Titled Cancer Screening Disparities among Hispanic Women in Tippecanoe County: A Diffusion of Innovations Perspective, Isa presented a deep dive into how health communication shapes participation in breast & cervical cancer screening among Hispanic women in the community.

“Through focus groups with Hispanic women and interviews with healthcare providers and community organizations, I found that screening isn’t a one-time decision; it’s a process that unfolds over time and is influenced by communication at multiple levels.

While many women are aware of screening, confusion around eligibility, costs, and navigating the healthcare system, along with language and structural barriers, can delay follow-through. At the same time, trusted social networks and culturally grounded communication really matter in encouraging participation, while gaps between institutional messaging and women’s lived experiences can create disconnects. Overall, my work highlights the importance of making health communication more accessible and culturally responsive to support preventive care and reduce disparities.”

following graduation…

“I will join Eli Lilly and Company this July as a Sr. Associate in the Global Scientific Communications department. I’m excited to contribute to advancing health outcomes and to continue growing and developing within the pharmaceutical industry while applying the knowledge and skills I’ve gained throughout my training.”

It’s been amazing to have you here at HTQL, Isa, and we wish the best of luck to your future!

We will miss you!
